Thursday 12th March, 2009: To celebrate Seachtaine na Gaeilge, Irish IT company Maithú are giving away their 'Get the Focal' mobile phone translation application until the end of St. Patrick's week.

You can download the 'Get the Focal' for free via the mobile website <m.getthefocal.com> or text the word 'focal' to 53503 (texts cost 30c) to get the download link sent direct to your phone.

'Get The Focal' is a 12,000 word Irish language translator which can be installed on modern mobile phones. A new version of the application has just been released with extra translations and the ability to translate words from Irish-English as well as from English-Irish. Maithu are releasing a mobile Irish translator for the iPhone in April and Samsung are also including a version of the application under the name the Gael Fón Dictionary on new handsets.

Student Jade Osbourne is pictured 'user testing' the application to finish her Irish homework, she said “this is the best thing ever!”. Janice Feighery from the Computer Clubhouse said “Whether you are sending texts in Irish, impressing people with your Irish language skills or doing your homework, the 'Get the focal' is a great help”.

More details on the 'Get the Focal' are available on the website: www.getthefocal.com.
